Over the years, painting (acrylic and color) then drawing (charcoal) have led me to my present interest and work in pastels.  I am drawn to the immediacy, spontaneity and color that pastels provide.  Working on pastel board is very satisfying as it grips the medium and allows me to build up color.   I enjoy the tactile nature of the medium – pushing, rubbing, removing.  The chalk doesn’t allow for a great deal of detail – which I don’t mind. I try to work with a hint of shape, color, light to capture the essence of an object, place or person.

The window paintings (acrylic) are painted from behind, working both sides at the same time.  I use brushes and razor blades to remove, reapply and work the subject.

I have spent a great deal of time living and travelling in Latin American.  The beauty of the markets, the produce, flowers and wares have always attracted me and have become a theme in many of my pieces.
We have also been spending much of our summers on Shelter Island, NY.  Most of my landscapes come from the North Fork of Long Island and Shelter Island.

I hope you enjoy my efforts!
